Renovation of a Traditional Queensland Home
About the build
The brief was to bring this traditional Queenslander back to her former glory and modernise into a large family home. The extensive renovation involved demolition of existing kitchen and bathroom, stripping of paint on all internal VJ walls and external cladding and removal of old carpet. Care was taken to retain as many of the traditional elements as possible. The upper level was reconfigured to accomodate 4 bedrooms, including the Master with ensuite and large dressing room, as well as a bathroom and living area. A private side entrance leads to the newly constructed lower level of the home. With an open plan layout, the timeless black and white kitchen is centrally positioned to allow for a connection to the dinning and living areas. Glass louvers through out allow for cross ventilation as well as views to the pool. The laundry and third bathroom are located downstairs along with the 5th bedroom which has external access through glass sliding doors making it an ideal work-from-home space.
The internal staircase, connecting the two levels, is flooded with natural light from large bay of glass louvers. Custom 2-pac joinery has been used through out along with a neutral colour pallet of whites, greys, blacks. Grey travertine tiles were selected as the pool coping tile for their timeless appeal, heat resistance and non-slip rating. Timber decking was used for the pool surrounds and alfresco area.
